This excerpt is taken from Sheikh Hussain bin Mubarak Al-Mosuli's Arabic book Al-Awamer wal-Nawahi, whose Urdu translation has been done by Muhammad Sarwar Gohar Sahib under the title Ahkamat o Mamnoaat.

Prohibition of Men Walking Among Women

① Sayyiduna Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما states that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم forbade a man from walking between two women.
Reference: Abu Dawood, Kitab al-Adab 5273.

② It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Saeed رضي الله عنه that he heard the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم say while he was outside the mosque and a man had mingled with women on the path:
استأخرن فليس لكن أن تحققن الطريق عليكن بحافات الطريق
Step back, do not walk in the middle of the path but walk along the edges of the path.
Reference: Abu Dawood, Kitab al-Adab 5272.

After that, the woman would walk close to the wall so much so that her garment would get caught on the wall.

Prohibition of Looking at Women

① Sayyiduna Jarir رضي الله عنه narrates, I asked the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم about the sudden glance, and he صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
اصرف بصرك
Turn your gaze away.
Reference: Muslim, Kitab al-Adab 2159/45, Abu Dawood, Kitab al-Nikah 2148, Tirmidhi, Kitab al-Adab 2776.

② Sayyiduna Buraydah رضي الله عنه narrates, the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said to Sayyiduna Ali رضي الله عنه:
يا على لا تتبع النظرة النظرة فإن لك الأولى وليست لك الآخرة
Ali! Do not keep looking continuously, you have the right to the first glance, not the second.
Reference: Abu Dawood, Kitab al-Nikah 2149, Tirmidhi, Kitab al-Adab 2777.

It is forbidden for a woman to look at a man

① Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates, I was with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and at that time Maimuna bint Harith was also with him when Ibn Umm Maktum (may Allah be pleased with him) came. This incident occurred after the command of hijab was revealed. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
احتجبا منه
You both observe hijab from him. We said, is he not blind? He neither sees us nor recognizes us. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
أفعمياوان أنتما ألستما تبصرانه
Are you both blind as well? Do you not see him?
Reference: Abu Dawood, Kitab al-Libas 4112, Tirmidhi, Kitab al-Adab 2778.
