Prohibition of ignorance, proximity to the king, humiliation of the self, and separation from the community

This excerpt is taken from Sheikh Hussain bin Mubarak Al-Mosuli's Arabic book Al-Awamer wal Nawahi, whose Urdu translation has been done by Muhammad Sarwar Gohar Sahib under the title Ahkamat o Mamnoaat.

Prohibition of Speaking Like the Age of Ignorance​

① Sayyiduna Harith Al-Ash'ari رضي الله عنه narrates that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
من فارق الجماعة قيد شبر فقد خلع ربقة الإسلام من عنقه إلا أن يرجع، ومن ادعى بدعوى جاهلية فإنه من جثا جهنم
"Whoever separates himself from the congregation by the length of a palm's breadth has removed the noose of Islam from his neck, unless he returns, and whoever makes sounds like the age of ignorance (such as wailing, etc.) is from the heaps of Hell."
Someone asked, O Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم! Even if he fasts and prays? He said:
وإن صام وإن صلى، فادعوا بدعوى الله الذى سماكم المسلمين المؤمنين
"Even if he fasts and prays, then call upon Allah by the name with which He named you Muslim and believer."

Prohibition of Seeking the King's Favor​

① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنهما that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
من سكن البادية جفا، ومن اتبع الصيد غفل، ومن لزم السلطان افتتن، وما ازداد عبد من السلطان دنوا إلا زاد من الله بعدا
"Whoever lives in the wilderness becomes hard-hearted and unkind, whoever chases after hunting becomes heedless, whoever stays with the king faces trials, and the closer a servant gets to the king, the farther he becomes from Allah."

Prohibition of Disgracing the Self​

① Sayyiduna Hudhaifah رضي الله عنه narrates that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
لا ينبغي للمؤمن أن يذل نفسه
"It is not the dignity of a believer to disgrace himself."
The Companions رضي الله عنهم asked, how does he disgrace himself? He said:
يتعرض من البلاء لما لا يطيق
"He puts himself into a trial which he does not have the strength to bear."

② It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
اللهم إني أعوذ بك من الفقر والقلة والذلة، وأعوذ بك من أن أظلم أو أظلم
"O Allah! I seek refuge in You from poverty, scarcity, and humiliation, and I seek refuge in You from oppressing others and being oppressed."

Prohibition of separating oneself from the congregation​

① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما that the Prophet Muhammad صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
لا تجتمع أمتي - أو قال: أمة محمد - على ضلالة، ويد الله مع الجماعة، ومن شذ شذ إلى النار
"My Ummah - or he said: the Ummah of Muhammad - will never unite upon misguidance and error, and the hand of Allah is with the Jama'ah (the group), and whoever separates from the Jama'ah will be separated towards Hellfire."

Reference: Tirmidhi, Kitab al-Fitan 2167, Imam Tirmidhi رحمه الله said: This hadith is strange.

② It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم used to supplicate:
اللهم إني أعوذ بك من الشقاق والنفاق وسوء الأخلاق
"O Allah! I seek refuge in You from fighting, discord, hypocrisy, and bad character."
