Prohibition of extravagance and arrogance, severe stinginess, pride, and the resemblance between men and women

This excerpt is taken from Sheikh Hussain bin Mubarak Al-Mosuli's Arabic book Al-Awamer wal-Nawahi, whose Urdu translation has been done by Muhammad Sarwar Gohar Sahib under the title Ahkamat o Mamnoaat.

Prohibition of Extravagance and Arrogance in Spending​

① Sayyiduna Amr bin Aas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
كلوا وتصدقوا والبسوا من غير إسراف ولا مخيلة
"Eat, give charity, and wear without extravagance and arrogance."

② Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both) narrates:
"Eat what you wish, wear what you wish, but let not two things mislead you from the right path: extravagance and arrogance."

Prohibition of Severe Stinginess and Sitting Wrapped in One Cloth​

① Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه narrates that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم forbade two ways of wearing clothes. The first is called Ishtimal al-Samma, which is when a person wraps a cloth or sheet around his body during prayer and then places one side of it on his shoulders, leaving his private parts exposed. The second way of wearing is that a person wraps a cloth and sits in such a way that nothing covers his private parts.

Prohibition of walking with arrogance by lowering the garment​

① Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه narrates, I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم say:
إن رجلا ممن كان قبلكم يتبختر فى حلة تعجبه نفسه مرجل رأسه يختال فى مشيه إذ خسف الله به الأرض فهو يتجلجل فى الأرض إلى يوم القيامة
"There was once a man who wore a pair of clothes and considered himself great. He had combed his hair and was walking arrogantly with his garment lowered, so Allah caused him to sink into the earth, and he will continue sinking into the earth until the Day of Judgment."

It is forbidden for men and women to imitate each other​

① Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنهما states that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم cursed men who imitate women and women who imitate men.

② Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه reports that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم cursed the man who wears women's clothing and the woman who wears men's clothing.
