Prohibition of evil, stinginess, causing hardship, and rejoicing at the misfortune of a Muslim

This excerpt is taken from Sheikh Hussain bin Mubarak Al-Mawsili's Arabic book Al-Awamer wal-Nawahi, whose Urdu translation has been done by Muhammad Sarwar Gohar Sahib under the title Ahkamat o Mamnoaat.

Prohibition of Evil

① It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha رضي الله عنها that a man asked the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم for permission to enter. When he saw him, he said: This is a bad man from his tribe. But when he sat down, the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم treated him with full attention and a smiling face. When the man left, I asked: O Messenger of Allah! When you saw this man, you said such things about him, then you treated him with full attention and a smiling face (what is the reason?). The Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
When have you ever found me speaking ill of anyone? On the Day of Resurrection, the worst person in the sight of Allah will be the one from whose evil people keep away and cut off relations to protect themselves from him.”
Reference: Bukhari, Book of Manners 6032.

And in the narration of Abu Dawood:
من شر الناس الذين يكرمون اتقاء ألسنتهم
“The worst people among the people are those whose evil tongues cause others to honor them out of fear of their harm.”

Prohibition of Stinginess

① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
اتقوا الظلم فإن الظلم ظلمات يوم القيامة، واتقوا الشح فإن الشح أهلك من كان قبلكم، حملهم على أن سفكوا دماءهم واستحلوا محارمهم
"Avoid oppression because oppression on the Day of Resurrection will be the cause of darkness, and avoid stinginess because stinginess destroyed the people before you; it made them ready to shed their own blood and to consider their lawful things as forbidden."
Reference: Muslim, Book of Virtue, Enjoining Good Manners and Joining of the Ties of Kinship 56/2578. Musnad Ahmad, remaining Musnad of the most frequent narrators 396/3 Hadith 14474.

② It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
شر ما فى الرجل شح هالع وجبن خالع
"The evil traits in a person are greed accompanied by covetousness and cowardice that causes the heart to be taken out."
Reference: Abu Dawood, Book of Jihad 2511, Musnad Ahmad, remaining Musnad of the most frequent narrators 404/2 Hadith 8030.

③ It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
لا يجتمع غبار فى سبيل الله ودخان جهنم فى جوف عبد أبدا، ولا يجتمع الشح والإيمان فى قلب عبد أبدا
"The dust of striving in the way of Allah (Jihad) and the smoke of Hellfire will never gather in the stomach of a servant. Likewise, stinginess and faith cannot coexist in the heart of a servant."
And in another narration:
في قلب مسلم
"In the heart of a Muslim."

④ Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri رضي الله عنه reports that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
خصلتان لا يجتمعان فى مؤمن: البخل وسوء الخلق
"There are two traits that cannot coexist in a believer: stinginess and bad character."
Reference: Tirmidhi, Book of Virtue and Joining of the Ties of Kinship 1961.

Prohibition of Causing Hardship

① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sarmah (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:
من ضار ضار الله به، ومن شاق شاق الله عليه
"Whoever harms people, Allah will harm him because of that, and whoever causes hardship to people, Allah will impose hardship and severity upon him."
Reference: Abu Dawood, Kitab al-Aqdiyah 3635, Tirmidhi, Kitab al-Birr wal-Silah 1940.

Prohibition of Rejoicing at a Muslim's Calamity

① Sayyiduna Wathilah bin Asqa (RA) reports that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:
لا تظهر الشماتة بأخيك فيرحمه الله ويبتليك
"Do not express happiness at your brother's calamity, perhaps Allah will save him and subject you to a trial."
Reference: Tirmidhi, Kitab Sifat al-Qiyamah wal-Raqa'iq wal-Wara' 'an Rasul Allah (PBUH) 2506.
