This excerpt is taken from the Arabic book Al-Awamer wal-Nawahi by Sheikh Hussain bin Mubarak Al-Mawsili, whose Urdu translation has been done by Muhammad Sarwar Gohar Sahib under the title Ahkamat o Mamnoaat.

Prohibition of Fasting Continuously

① Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه narrates that the Prophet Muhammad صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
لا تواصلوا
"Do not fast continuously (without breaking your fast)."
They said, "But you, O Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم, fast continuously (without breaking your fast)?" The Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
"I am not like you; when I spend the night, I am given food and drink."
Reference: Bukhari, Book of Fasting 1961. Tirmidhi, Book of Fasting 778.

② Sayyida Aisha رضي الله عنها narrates that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم forbade fasting continuously without breaking the fast, so the Companions رضي الله عنهم said, "But you, O Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم, fast continuously without breaking your fast." The Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
"I am not like you, for my Lord feeds and gives me drink."

Instructions Regarding Suhoor

① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
تسحروا فإن فى السحور بركة
"Take suhoor (pre-dawn meal) for there is blessing in suhoor."
Reference: Bukhari, Kitab al-Sawm 1923. Muslim, Kitab al-Siyam 1095.

② It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr ibn al-As رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
فصل ما بين صيامنا وصيام أهل الكتاب أكلة السحور
"The difference between our fasts and the fasts of the People of the Book is the eating of suhoor."
Reference: Muslim, Kitab al-Siyam 1096. Abu Dawood, Kitab al-Sawm 2343.

③ Sayyiduna Arbad ibn Sariyah رضي الله عنه reports that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم invited me to suhoor during Ramadan and said:
هلم إلى الغداء المبارك
"Come to the blessed meal."
Reference: Abu Dawood, Kitab al-Sawm 2344. An-Nasa'i, Kitab al-Siyam 145/4. Its chain is weak. In it, Harith ibn Ziyadah is unknown in hadith.

Rules for Observing Fasting

① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
كل عمل ابن آدم يضاعف له الحسنة بعشر أمثالها إلى سبع مائة ضعف ، قال الله تعالى: إلا الصوم فإنه لي وأنا أجزي به ، يدع شهوته وطعامه من أجلي ، للصائم فرحتان: فرحة عند فطره ، وفرحة عند لقاء ربه ، ولخلوف فيه أطيب عند الله من ريح المسك
"The reward of every deed of the son of Adam is multiplied, his good deed is increased from ten times to seven hundred times. Allah Almighty said: Except for fasting, for it is for Me and I shall reward it. The fasting person leaves his desires and food for My sake. The fasting person has two joys: one joy at the time of breaking the fast, and another joy when he meets his Lord. The smell from the mouth of the fasting person is more pleasing to Allah than the fragrance of musk."
Reference: Bukhari, Book of Fasting 1904; Muslim, Book of Fasting 1151.

② It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d رضي الله عنه that the Prophet Muhammad صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
إن فى الجنة بابا يقال له الريان يدخل منه الصائمون يوم القيامة ولا يدخل منه أحد غيرهم يقال: أين الصائمون؟ فيقومون لا يدخل منه أحد غيرهم فإذا دخلوا أغلق فلم يدخل منه أحد
"There is a gate in Paradise called Rayyan. On the Day of Resurrection, only the fasting people will enter through it; no one else will enter from it. It will be called out: Where are the fasting people? They will stand up, and no one else will enter with them. When they have entered, it will be closed, and no one else will enter through it."
Reference: Bukhari, Book of Fasting 1896; Muslim, Book of Fasting 1152.

③ Sayyiduna Abu Imamah رضي الله عنه narrates that I came to the presence of the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم and said: Command me with something that I may seek from you.
"Observe fasting, for there is no deed like it."
Reference: Nasa’i, Book of Fasting 4/165; Ibn Khuzaymah 1893. The narration is authentic.
