Prohibition of Burning Apostates in Islam: Hadith Evidence

❖ Prohibition of Burning in the Punishment of the Apostate

Written by: Imran Ayoob Lahori

◈ Apostate Is Not to Be Burned

ʿAlī (RA) once burned some apostates. When this reached Ibn ʿAbbās (RA), he said:

"If it had been me, I would have killed them, but I would not have burned them, because the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

لا تعذبوا بعذاب الله
"Do not punish with the punishment of Allah."

When ʿAlī (RA) was informed of this, he said:
"Ibn ʿAbbās has spoken the truth."
