Prohibition of Anal Intercourse with Women in the Light of Qur’an and Sunnah

Question:
What is the ruling on unnatural intercourse with one’s wife (anal intercourse)?
Answer:
Unnatural intercourse (anal intercourse with women) is one of the most heinous and wretched sins. It gravely harms both intellectual and practical faculties, bringing only humiliation, loss, and ruin. Its doer is disgraced and deprived of success. This abominable act is among the vile practices of nations whom Allah’s wrath befell, alongside homosexuality, the act of the people of Lūṭ, and anal intercourse with women.
In the list of immoralities, and in the natural disposition’s abhorrence, this sin is even more repulsive than fornication. After kufr, it is among the gravest sins. Its destructive effects on society surpass even murder. To deem it lawful is a baseless claim, a direct assault on the pure teachings of Islam, and a violation of Islamic morals. It is a crime devoid of religious and human benefit, stripping one of piety and trustworthiness, and turning marital love into hatred, undermining the sanctity of marriage, harming health, and robbing spirituality.
No one acquainted with the Qur’an and Sunnah could possibly commit such a vile act. History bears witness that nations indulging in this were made examples of destruction by Allah. Tragically, some Western countries have even legalized this disgraceful act, yet few raise their voices in protest.
❀ Imām Ibn Jarīr al-Ṭabarī رحمه الله (d. 310H) said:
في إجماع الجميع على أن الله تعالى ذكره لم يطلق فى حال الحيض من إتيانهن فى أدبارهن شيئا حرمه فى حال الطهر، ولا حرم من ذلك فى حال الطهر شيئا أحله فى حال الحيض.
“There is consensus among all scholars that Allah has never permitted anal intercourse with women in menstruation while prohibiting it in purity, nor has He prohibited it in purity while permitting it in menstruation.”
