Narration:
[Abū Dāwūd: 4541, Nasā’ī: 8/42–43, Ibn Mājah: 2630]
Translation of the Hadith:
ʿUqbah bin Aws narrates from ʿAbdullāh bin ʿAmr that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ruled:
“Whoever is killed accidentally, his Diyyah is one hundred camels: thirty one-year-old she-camels (Bint Makhaāḍ), thirty two-year-old she-camels (Bint Labūn), thirty three-year-old she-camels (Ḥiqqah), and ten two-year-old male camels (Ibn Labūn).”
Authentication:
The Hadith is graded Ḥasan (sound). Reported by Abū Dāwūd, al-Nasā’ī, and Ibn Mājah.
The prescribed breakdown is:
❷ The Diyyah in accidental killing is not aggravated (Mughallaẓah); rather, it is considered light (Khafīfah) compared to intentional killing.
❸ The payment of Diyyah in cases of accidental killing is the responsibility of the ‘Āqilah—the paternal male relatives of the killer—who are obligated to collectively bear the compensation.
