The Book of Jihad

Preparing a Mujahid in the Way of Allah

① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zaid bin Khalid, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
من جهز غازيا فى سبيل الله فقد غزا و من خلف غازيا فى أهله بخير فقد غزا
"Whoever prepares a Mujahid in the way of Allah or takes care of his family with goodness, then he has performed Jihad."
Reference: A group of Muhaddithin have narrated it. Bukhari, Book of Jihad and Expeditions 2843. Muslim, Book of Leadership 1895. Abu Dawood, Book of Jihad 2509. Nasai, Book of Jihad 6/46.

② It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Amr bin Al-As, may Allah be pleased with both of them, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
للغازي أجره وللجاعل أجره و أجر الغازي
"The Mujahid has only his own reward, while the one who arranges the reward for the Mujahid has the reward of both himself and the Mujahid."

Jihad in the Way of Allah Almighty

① Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that it was asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! Which deed is equivalent to Jihad in the way of Allah? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
لا تستطيعونه فأعادوا عليه مرتين أو ثلاثا كل ذلك يقول: لا تستطيعونه قال: مثل المجاهد فى سبيل الله كمثل الصائم القائم القانت بآيات الله لا يفتر من صيام، ولا صلاة حتى يرجع المجاهد فى سبيل الله
"You do not have the strength for it." When the question was repeated two or three times, the Prophet (peace be upon him) repeated the same answer each time: You do not have the strength for it. Then he said: The example of one who strives in the way of Allah is like a fasting person who stays awake at night and obeys Allah's verses. The one who strives in the way of Allah refrains from breaking the fast and from prayer until he returns."

② Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! Tell me a deed that is equal to Jihad. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
لا أجده
"I do not find any deed like it."
Then he said:
"Do you have the ability that when a Mujahid goes out for Jihad, you stay in your mosque, do not show any laziness, and fast without breaking your fast?"
The man said: "Who has the ability for that?"
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates:
"The horse of the Mujahid, running at full speed, earns good deeds for its rider."

The Reward for Guarding in the Way of Allah Almighty

① Sayyiduna Salman Farsi رضي الله عنه narrates, I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم say:
رباط يوم وليلة خير من صيام شهر و قيامه ، و إن مات فيه جرى عليه عمله الذى كان يعمل و أجري عليه رزقه و أمن الفتان
"Guarding day and night, fasting for a whole month, and standing in prayer is better. And if he dies during this, then the deeds he used to do continue, his provision is also continued, and he is protected from Munkar and Nakir."
Reference: Muslim, Kitab al-Imarah 3 / 19.

② Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sahl al-Saadi رضي الله عنه narrates that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
رباط يوم فى سبيل الله خير من الدنيا وما عليها
"Guarding for one day in the way of Allah is better than the world and all that is in it."
Reference: Bukhari, Kitab al-Jihad wa al-Siyar 2892, Tirmidhi, Fadl al-Jihad 1164.

③ Sayyiduna Fadalah bin Ubaid رضي الله عنه narrates that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
كل ميت يختم على عمله إلا الذى مات مرابطا فى سبيل الله فإنه ينمي له عمله إلى يوم القيامة ويؤمن من فتنة القبر
"Except for the one who dies while guarding in the way of Allah, every dead person’s deeds come to an end. But his deeds continue to increase for him until the Day of Judgment, and he is also protected from the trial of the grave."
Reference: Abu Dawood, Kitab al-Jihad 2500. Tirmidhi, Fadl al-Jihad 1621.

④ Sayyiduna Uthman رضي الله عنه narrates, I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم say:
رباط يوم فى سبيل الله خير من ألف يوم فيما سواه من المنازل
"Guarding for one day in the way of Allah is better than a thousand days in which there are other stages besides it."
Reference: Tirmidhi, Kitab Fada'il al-Jihad 1667. The narration is authentic.
