Sayyiduna Jābir رضي الله عنه narrates:
When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ reached Maqām Ibrāhīm, he recited the verse:
وَاتَّخِذُوا مِنْ مَّقَامِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مُصَلًّى [Al-Baqarah: 125]
“…And take the Maqām Ibrāhīm as a place of prayer.”
He then performed two rak‘ahs. In these rak‘ahs, he recited Sūrah al-Fātiḥah, Qul yā ayyuhal kāfirūn, and Qul huwa Allāhu aḥad.
After that, ثُمَّ عَادَ إِلَى الرُّكْنِ فَاسْتَلَمَهُ – he returned to the corner (Ḥajar al-Aswad) and touched it.
Then the Prophet ﷺ proceeded towards Ṣafā.

Nawāb Ṣiddīq Ḥasan Khān رحمه الله states:
The Prophet ﷺ recited aloud (jahr) in these two rak‘ahs during the day, therefore reciting aloud in them is Sunnah whether during the day or night.

Scholarly Rulings:
- Imām al-Shāfi‘ī and Imām Mālik: These two rak‘ahs are Sunnah.
- Imām Abū Ḥanīfah: They are wājib.
- Ibn Qudāmah: They are Sunnah mu’akkadah.
