Supplications for Protection in Light of the Qur’an and Hadith

❀ Introduction ❀
Allah ﷻ has blessed mankind with countless bounties, while also subjecting him to various trials and dangers. In order to seek protection from these trials and obtain Allah's safeguard, the Noble Prophet ﷺ taught several supplications. Below are some important supplications that may help protect us from all kinds of evil, misfortunes, and harm.

➊ Supplication for Protection from Evil Morals, Evil Deeds, and Evil Desires​

Narrated by ʿĀ’ishah (رضي الله عنها):
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite the following supplication:


اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ مُنْكَرَاتِ الْأَخْلَاقِ وَالْأَعْمَالِ وَالْأَهْوَاءِ


Translation:
“O Allah! I seek refuge in You from evil morals, evil deeds, and evil desires.”


Musnad Ahmad: 25154, Al-Adab al-Mufrad by al-Bukhari: 446

➋ Supplication for Protection from Performed and Unperformed Evil Deeds​

Narrated by ʿĀ’ishah (رضي الله عنها):
The Prophet ﷺ used to recite this supplication:


اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا عَمِلْتُ وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَا لَمْ أَعْمَلْ


Translation:
“O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done and from the evil of what I have not yet done.”


Sahih Muslim: 2739, Sunan al-Nasa’i: 5470

➌ Supplication for Protection from the Loss of Blessings and the Wrath of Allah​

Narrated by ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar (رضي الله عنهما):
The Prophet ﷺ would frequently recite this supplication:


اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ زَوَالِ نِعْمَتِكَ وَتَحَوُّلِ عَافِيَتِكَ وَفُجَاءَةِ نِقْمَتِكَ وَجَمِيعِ سَخَطِكَ


Translation:
“O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the withdrawal of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, Your sudden punishment, and all forms of Your displeasure.”


Sahih Muslim: 2739, Sunan al-Tirmidhi: 3503

➍ Supplication for Protection from Trials, Misfortune, Evil Destiny, and Enemies’ Rejoicing​

Narrated by Abū Hurairah (رضي الله عنه):
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to seek refuge from these four things:


اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ جَهْدِ الْبَلَاءِ وَدَرَكِ الشَّقَاءِ وَسُوءِ الْقَضَاءِ وَشَمَاتَةِ الْأَعْدَاءِ


Translation:
“O Allah! I seek refuge in You from severe trials, misfortune, evil destiny, and the glee of enemies over my suffering.”

➎ Supplication for Protection from Poverty, Scarcity, Humiliation, and Oppression​

Narrated by Abū Hurairah (رضي الله عنه):
The Prophet ﷺ sought refuge in Allah from poverty, scarcity, humiliation, and oppression:


اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْفَقْرِ وَالْقِلَّةِ وَالذِّلَّةِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ أَنْ أَظْلِمَ أَوْ أُظْلَمَ


Translation:
“O Allah! I seek refuge in You from poverty, scarcity, and humiliation; and I seek refuge in You from oppressing or being oppressed.”


Sunan al-Nasa’i: 5472, Sunan Abī Dāwūd: 1544

➏ Supplication for Protection from the Evil of Ears, Eyes, Tongue, Heart, and Desires​

Narrated by Shakl ibn Humayd (رضي الله عنه):
I asked the Prophet ﷺ, “Teach me a supplication.” He ﷺ taught me the following:


اللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ سَمْعِي، وَمِنْ شَرِّ بَصَرِي، وَمِنْ شَرِّ لِسَانِي، وَمِنْ شَرِّ قَلْبِي، وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَنِيِّي


Translation:
“O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the evil of my hearing, the evil of my sight, the evil of my tongue, the evil of my heart, and the evil of my desires.”


Sunan Abī Dāwūd, Kitāb al-Witr, Ḥadīth: 1551

➐ Supplication for Protection from Hunger and Treachery​

Narrated by Abū Hurairah (رضي الله عنه):
The Prophet ﷺ used to recite this supplication:


اللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْجُوعِ، فَإِنَّهُ بِئْسَ الضَّجِيعُ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخِيَانَةِ، فَإِنَّهَا بِئْسَتِ الْبِطَانَةُ


Translation:
“O Allah! I seek refuge in You from hunger, for indeed it is a dreadful companion, and I seek refuge in You from treachery, for it is an evil inner trait.”


Sunan Abī Dāwūd, Kitāb al-Witr, Ḥadīth: 1547

➑ Supplication for Protection from Inability, Laziness, Cowardice, and Old Age​

Narrated by Anas ibn Mālik (رضي الله عنه):
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say:


اللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْعَجْزِ، وَالْكَسَلِ، وَالْجُبْنِ، وَالْهَرَمِ


Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitāb al-Daʿawāt, Ḥadīth: 6367


Conclusion
May Allah ﷻ grant us the ability to recite these supplications frequently and bless us with His protection from all kinds of evil, trials, and hardships. Āmīn!
