Excerpt from: Shakhbūt bin Ṣāliḥ bin ʿAbd al-Hādī al-Marri — How to Perform Ruqyah on Yourself (Protection and Treatment from Evil Eye, Magic, and Possession)
Translation:
He is Allah, my Lord. I do not associate anything with Him.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: When anyone among you feels panic in sleep, he should supplicate with these words:
Translation:
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger, His punishment, the evil of His servants, the whisperings of devils, and from their presence.
Whoever recites this, nothing will harm him.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ instructed that when one is frightened by a dream or sees something disliked, he should do the following:
① Spit lightly to the right three times.
③ Seek refuge three times from the evil of what was seen.
④ Turn to another side (change position).
⑤ If it happens again, get up, perform ablution, and pray two rakʿahs.
⑥ Recite Āyat al-Kursī in prayer.
⑦ Do not tell anyone about the dream.
⑧ By doing so, he will remain protected from the evil of the dream.
Translation:
There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, the One, the Subjugator; Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them; the Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving.
She said: One day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out of his house anxious, and his blessed face had turned red. He was repeating:
Translation:
There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah.
He said: I used to feel fear at night. I came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: “I become frightened at night, and I go out with a sword and strike whatever I encounter.”
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Shall I not teach you words taught to me by the Trustworthy Spirit (Jibrīl)?”
I said: “Certainly, O Messenger of Allah.”
He ﷺ said: Recite:
Translation:
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah, which neither the righteous nor the wicked can surpass, from the evil of what descends from the sky, the evil of what ascends therein, the evil of what He has created and spread upon the earth, the evil of what emerges from it, the evil of the trials of night and day, and from the evil of every visitor of the night except one who brings good — O Most Merciful.
A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and complained of frightening dreams. The Prophet ﷺ said: When you go to your bed, recite:
