A Muslim can protect themselves from the evil eye through the following methods:
Those who fear the evil eye, jealousy, or magic from certain individuals should consistently recite legislated adhkār (remembrances), supplications (duʿā’), and wazā’if (routine devotions) to safeguard themselves.
✿ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to seek protection for al-Ḥasan and al-Ḥusayn رضي الله عنهما with the following supplication:
﴿أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ﴾
“I seek refuge in the perfect Words of Allah from every devil and poisonous creature and from every envious (evil) eye.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 3371, Abū Dāwūd: 4737]
❀ The Prophet ﷺ used to say:
"This is the same supplication your father Ibrāhīm عليه السلام used to say when seeking protection for Ismāʿīl and Isḥāq عليهما السلام.”
“I seek refuge in the perfect Words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: 2708]
(Repeat of above: same hadith references – al-Bukhārī: 3371, Abū Dāwūd: 4737)
☞ These supplications should be recited consistently, along with previously mentioned ones.
If someone fears that their own eye might harm due to admiration or envy for something in themselves, their wealth, family, or siblings, they should immediately say:
﴿مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ، اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ فِيهِمْ﴾
“Whatever Allah wills [happens], there is no power except by Allah. O Allah, place blessings in it (or them)!”
❀ The Prophet ﷺ said:
“When any one of you sees something admirable in his brother, let him pray for blessings for him.”
[Aḥmad: 4/447, Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Mājah: 3509]
If it is known or suspected that someone causes the evil eye, their gatherings should be avoided.
Sayyidunā ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān رضي الله عنه once saw a beautiful child and said to the family:
❀ “Place a black mark on his chin to prevent the evil eye.”
[Al-Sunnah by al-Baghawī: 13/116, Zād al-Maʿād: 4/173]
This is merely an attempt to reduce visible beauty to prevent the evil eye.
However, if someone applies a black mark believing it itself repels the evil eye, then this is a polytheistic belief (shirk) and strictly prohibited.
[Al-Tamhīd Sharḥ Kitāb al-Tawḥīd by Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān: p. 622]
These surahs are powerful remedies for relief and protection.
Even the most unaware individuals recognize the merits of these chapters.
❀ Narration from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to seek refuge from jinn and the evil eye until al-Muʿawwidhatayn (Sūrah al-Falaq and Sūrah al-Nās) were revealed. After their revelation, he would rely solely on them.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Tirmidhī: 2058]
❀ Al-Qāḍī ʿIyāḍ رحمه الله said:
“Some scholars رحمهم الله stated: If it is known that a person’s eye harms, then it becomes necessary to avoid and stay away from him.”
That is, one should avoid being in the company of such a person and not sit with him.
If someone is helping people or fulfilling their needs, they should avoid making these acts public — especially in front of people known to cast the evil eye.
❀ Narration from Muʿādh ibn Jabal
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Seek help in fulfilling your needs through secrecy, for every person who is blessed is envied.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Jāmiʿ: 943, al-Ṣaḥīḥah: 1453]

❖ Protection from the Evil Eye (ʿAyn):
A Muslim can protect themselves from the evil eye through the following methods:
◈ Adherence to Prescribed Supplications and Remembrances:
Those who fear the evil eye, jealousy, or magic from certain individuals should consistently recite legislated adhkār (remembrances), supplications (duʿā’), and wazā’if (routine devotions) to safeguard themselves.

❀ The Prophet ﷺ used to say:
"This is the same supplication your father Ibrāhīm عليه السلام used to say when seeking protection for Ismāʿīl and Isḥāq عليهما السلام.”
◈ Another Supplication for General Protection:
﴿أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ﴾
“I seek refuge in the perfect Words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: 2708]

(Repeat of above: same hadith references – al-Bukhārī: 3371, Abū Dāwūd: 4737)

◈ If You Fear Your Own Eye May Harm Others:
If someone fears that their own eye might harm due to admiration or envy for something in themselves, their wealth, family, or siblings, they should immediately say:
﴿مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ، اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ فِيهِمْ﴾

“When any one of you sees something admirable in his brother, let him pray for blessings for him.”
[Aḥmad: 4/447, Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Mājah: 3509]
◈ Conceal Goodness from the One Suspected of Giving the Evil Eye:
If it is known or suspected that someone causes the evil eye, their gatherings should be avoided.
Sayyidunā ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān رضي الله عنه once saw a beautiful child and said to the family:
❀ “Place a black mark on his chin to prevent the evil eye.”

[Al-Tamhīd Sharḥ Kitāb al-Tawḥīd by Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān: p. 622]
◈ Recite Frequently:
- Sūrah al-Ikhlāṣ
- Sūrah al-Falaq
- Sūrah al-Nās
- Sūrah al-Fātiḥah
- Āyat al-Kursī
These surahs are powerful remedies for relief and protection.
Even the most unaware individuals recognize the merits of these chapters.

[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Tirmidhī: 2058]
◈ Avoid and Distance Yourself from the One Known to Cause Evil Eye:
❀ Al-Qāḍī ʿIyāḍ رحمه الله said:
“Some scholars رحمهم الله stated: If it is known that a person’s eye harms, then it becomes necessary to avoid and stay away from him.”
That is, one should avoid being in the company of such a person and not sit with him.
◈ Secretly Help Others and Conceal Good Deeds:
If someone is helping people or fulfilling their needs, they should avoid making these acts public — especially in front of people known to cast the evil eye.
❀ Narration from Muʿādh ibn Jabal
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Seek help in fulfilling your needs through secrecy, for every person who is blessed is envied.”
