Sa’i Before Tawaf — Is It Limited to the Day of Eid Only?
Source: Fatāwā Arkān al-Islām
Is the permissibility of performing Sa’i before Tawaf restricted to the Day of Eid only, or does this allowance continue after Eid as well?
Alḥamdulillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā Baʿd!
The correct and stronger opinion is that there is no difference between the Day of Eid and the days after it in this matter. Even after the Day of Eid, performing Sa’i before Tawaf is permissible according to Shariah.
The proof is the statement of the Prophet ﷺ to a man who asked:
“I performed Sa’i before Tawaf. Is this valid?”
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied: «لَا حَرَجَ» — “There is no harm.”
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Kitāb al-Ḥajj, Bāb Idhā Ramā Baʿda Mā Amsā, Ḥadīth: 1734; Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, Kitāb al-Ḥajj, Bāb Jawāz Taqdīm al-Dhabḥ ʿalā al-Ramī, Ḥadīth: 1306; Sunan Abī Dāwūd, Kitāb al-Manāsik, Bāb Fī Man Qaddama Shay’an…, Ḥadīth: 2015 — wording from Abū Dāwūd)
Since this ḥadīth is general and does not restrict the ruling to a specific day, there is no difference between the Day of Eid and the days after it regarding this allowance. The ruling applies equally to all days.
