Performing Salah with Headphones: Hindrance to Khushu‘ or a Necessity?

Derived from: Fatawa Ulama-e-Hadith, Kitab al-Salah, Volume 1

❖ Question:

🎧What is the ruling on performing Salah while wearing headphones?

❖ Answer:

Salah is the Mi'raj (ascension) of the believer and the coolness of the eyes. It is an act that demands utmost devotion and humility (khushu‘ and khudu‘). During Salah, a person is required to detach from worldly affairs and establish a sincere connection with the Creator through supplication and private conversation.

Wearing headphones during Salah contradicts the wisdom and objectives associated with prayer, particularly the attainment of khushu‘. The use of headphones can disrupt one’s focus and reduce the spiritual quality of the prayer.

Therefore, it is imperative for a believer to avoid anything that may serve as a distraction or diminish their presence of mind in Salah. Maintaining full concentration and devotion is a key element in fulfilling the true essence of this act of worship.

Conclusion: Performing Salah while wearing headphones is discouraged as it interferes with the spiritual tranquility required in prayer.
