❖ One Adhan and Two Iqamahs When Combining Prayers
Written by: Imran Ayub Lahori
✦ Evidence from the Sunnah
Hazrat Jabir (رضی اللہ عنہ) narrates in a lengthy Hadith that during Hajj, the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) performed the standing (wuqūf) at Arafat:
"ثم أذن ثم أقام فصلى الظهر ثم أقام فصلى العصر"
"Then the Adhan was called, then the Iqamah was said, and he (صلى الله عليه وسلم) prayed Dhuhr; then another Iqamah was said and he prayed Asr."
[Muslim 1218; Kitab al-Hajj: Bab Hajj al-Nabi; Abu Dawood 1905; Nasa’i 1/290; Darimi 2/44; Bayhaqi 5/7; Ibn Majah 3074]
✦ Scholarly Opinion
❖ Shawkani (رحمه الله) states:
"This is the preferred and strongest opinion."
[As-Sayl al-Jarrar 1/195]
✔ Summary:
◈ When combining two prayers (such as Dhuhr and Asr, or Maghrib and Isha), whether during travel or in specific situations like Hajj, the Sunnah method is:
✔ One Adhan for both prayers
✔ Separate Iqamah for each individual prayer
◈ This practice is clearly established from the authentic Hadith of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم).
