Not Intending Hajj After ʿUmrah in Shawwāl: Is It Tamattuʿ?

Is It Considered Tamattuʿ If One Performs ʿUmrah in Shawwāl Without Intending Hajj?

❖ Question:​


If someone enters into Iḥrām for ʿUmrah in the month of Shawwāl, completes the ʿUmrah, but initially has no intention to perform Hajj, and later decides to perform Hajj — will this be considered Hajj al-Tamattuʿ?


❖ Answer:​


Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd...


If a person performs ʿUmrah in the month of Shawwāl, and at that time does not intend to perform Hajj, but later decides to perform Hajj during the same season, then:


This will not be considered Hajj al-Tamattuʿ.
No sacrificial animal (qurbānī) will be obligatory upon him.
