Question:

Can there be any possibility of falsehood in the speech of Allah Almighty?

Answer:

Allah’s refuge! There can never be any possibility of falsehood in the speech of Allah Almighty. Truthfulness is a perfect attribute, and Allah Almighty is characterized with attributes of perfection. Falsehood is a defect, and Allah Almighty is free from all deficient attributes. Therefore, Allah is far above falsehood and is characterized by absolute truthfulness.

❀ Allah Almighty says:
﴿مَنْ أَصْدَقُ مِنَ اللهِ حَدِيثًا﴾
(An-Nisa: 87)
“Who is more truthful in statement than Allah?”

❀ And He also says:
﴿مَنْ أَصْدَقُ مِنَ اللهِ قِيلًا﴾
(An-Nisa: 122)
“Who is more truthful in speech than Allah?”

Some later theologians engaged in unnecessary discussions regarding the possibility of falsehood in relation to Allah Almighty. These are nothing but deviations from the methodology of the righteous predecessors (Salaf al-Ummah). Muslims should always base their beliefs and practices upon the path of the Companions, the Tabi‘in, the Atba‘ al-Tabi‘in, and the Imams of guidance.
