Naming a Mosque After a Deceased Son – In the Light of Sharīʿah

Source: Ahkam wa Masā’il – The Chapter of Mosques, Vol. 1, p. 108

❖ The Question

Can I name a mosque after my deceased son, e.g., “Jāmiʿ Masjid Sajjad Ahl-e-Ḥadīth”?

❖ The Answer

Alhamdulillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh. Ammā baʿd!

For the purpose of conveying reward (īṣāl al-thawāb) to your late son, the mosque and madrasa you are constructing may be named as follows:

❀ Madrasa: “Jāmiʿah Sajjad li-Ahl al-Ḥadīth”
❀ Mosque: “Jāmiʿ Sajjad li-Ahl al-Ḥadīth”

From a Sharʿī perspective, there is no prohibition or objection in using such names. Therefore, you may adopt them without hesitation.

We supplicate that Allah Almighty accept this righteous deed, make it a source of ongoing charity (ṣadaqah jāriyah) for you, and grant you further ability to perform sincere good deeds.

Āmīn, Yā Rabb al-ʿĀlamīn
