Mentioning the sacrificer at the time of slaughter according to authentic Ahadith

This excerpt is taken from Professor Dr. Fazl Elahi's book Masail-e-Qurbani.

Mentioning the one on whose behalf the sacrifice is made at the time of slaughter

From the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, it is also established that at the time of slaughtering, mention should be made of the one on whose behalf the sacrifice is being offered. Two of the hadiths indicating this are as follows:
➊ In the hadith narrated by Imam Muslim on the authority of Hazrat Aisha (RA), it has already been mentioned that:
Then the Prophet ﷺ took the knife and laid the ram down for slaughter, then he said:
بسم الله اللهم تقبل من محمد وآل محمد ومن أمة محمدﷺ
“In the name of Allah. O Allah! Accept it on behalf of Muhammad, the family of Muhammad, and the Ummah of Muhammad ﷺ.”

Imam Nawawi wrote in the explanation of the hadith:
فيه دليل لاستحباب قول المضحي حال الذبح مع التسمية والتكبير اللهم تقبل مني
“This [hadith] indicates that it is recommended for the one offering the sacrifice to say [Bismillah wa Allahu Akbar] at the time of slaughtering اللهم تقبل مني (Translation: O Allah! Accept it from me).”

➋ Imam Abu Dawood narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah (RA) that he said:
”شهدت مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم الأضحى فى المصلى فلما قضى خطبته نزل من منبره وأتي بكبش فذبحه رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بيده وقال:
بسم الله والله أكبر هذا عني وعمن لم يضح من أمتي“

“I attended the Eidgah with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. After delivering the sermon, he descended from the pulpit. A ram was brought and he slaughtered it with his blessed hand and said:
بسم الله والله أكبر، هذا عني وعمن لم يضح من أمتي.
In the name of Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. This [sacrifice] is on my behalf and on behalf of every person of my Ummah who has not offered a sacrifice.”

Shaykh al-Albani has declared it authentic.

Warning:

According to the opinion of some people, mentioning the name of the one on whose behalf the sacrifice is being made at the time of slaughter is disliked, but their opinion is not worthy of attention because it contradicts the established Sunnah of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
