Matters Contrary to the Belief of Faith and Signs of Hypocrisy

Faith and Disbelief​


Definition of Faith:​


Believing in all the words of Allah Almighty and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, accepting them sincerely and wholeheartedly, acting upon their preferred deeds, and avoiding disliked deeds is called faith, and such a person is called a believer.

Definition of Disbelief:​


Denying all the words of Allah Almighty and His Messenger ﷺ, or not accepting one or more of their commands and not believing in them is disbelief, and such a person is called a disbeliever.

Matters of Disbelief:​


[1] The foremost thing that contradicts Islam is associating partners with Allah (Shirk).

Asking for prayers from men and the absent dead, calling upon them, making vows and sacrifices for men, etc., fall under this shirk.

[2] Whoever places intermediaries between himself and Allah Almighty, asks them for prayers, seeks intercession from them, and trusts in them, then by consensus, he becomes a disbeliever (as people nowadays go to graves and say).

[3] Whoever does not consider the polytheists as disbelievers, or doubts their disbelief, or considers their religion to be true.

[4] Whoever holds the belief that any way of life other than that of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is more complete and comprehensive, or believes that there is a better system of governance than that of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, then he is a disbeliever.

[5] Whoever dislikes any part of the Shariah brought by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, even if he acts upon it, becomes a disbeliever. Because Allah Almighty said: "Because they disliked that which Allah revealed, Allah has rendered their deeds worthless."

[6] Whoever mocks any part of the religion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ or its reward and punishment commits disbelief.

[7] Whoever practices magic or is pleased with it commits disbelief.

[8] Collaborating with polytheists against Muslims and providing them assistance.

[9] Whoever believes that certain specific individuals can be exempt from adhering to the Shariah of the Messenger ﷺ is a disbeliever.

[10] Turning away from the religion of Allah in such a way that a person neither learns this religion nor acts upon it.

[11] Considering the Prophets as Allah in human form causes a person to become a disbeliever.

[12] Denying one or more verses of Allah causes a person to become a disbeliever.

[13] Lying about Allah causes a person to become a disbeliever, meaning a person says something that Allah has not said.

[14] Calling upon anyone other than Allah causes a person to become a disbeliever.

Regarding these verses, Ahmad Raza Khan wrote in his translation with commentary that the disbelievers are definitely deprived of Paradise.

[15] Whoever attributes any attribute of Allah to a creation’s attribute is a disbeliever.

[16] If a person says that a marriage is not valid with the testimony of Allah Almighty and His Messenger ﷺ, he is declared a disbeliever. His disbelief is derived from two evidences,

First, that he considered the forbidden as permissible, because Allah Almighty and His Messenger ﷺ have specified testimony to humans and have not commanded testimony to anyone else.

The second evidence is that when he made the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a witness, he proved the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to be a knower of the unseen, whereas knowledge of the unseen is exclusive to Allah Almighty.

[17] Whoever denies the text is a disbeliever.

[18] Whoever denies a single verse of the Quran or finds fault in anything in the Quran, this is disbelief.

[19] Whoever mocks any command of Allah or denies His promise and threat, he is a disbeliever.

[20] Denial of a mutawatir hadith is disbelief.

[21] One narrated a hadith and another said it is nothing, then he is a disbeliever.

[22] Whoever considers the Sunnah insignificant and abandons it completely is a disbeliever.

[23] Whoever regards the Sunnah as contemptible is a disbeliever.

[24] Whoever does not recognize the Sunnah as right will also be a disbeliever.

[25] Someone said trimming nails is Sunnah, and another says I will not trim them, then he is a disbeliever.

[26] If someone says, what use is the Sunnah, he will become a disbeliever.

[27] A Rafidhi (Shia) who curses the two Caliphs (Abu Bakr and Umar رضي الله عنهما) is a disbeliever.

[28] There is no status of a person where the Shariah rulings are lifted from him; opposing this is disbelief.

[29] Whoever says worship is forgiven is a disbeliever.

[31] Whoever mocks or shows disrespect to any verse is a disbeliever.

[32] Whoever recites the Quran on a mat or similar is a disbeliever.

[33] One person said to another, "Pray." He replied, "Who will carry him on his shoulders?" or said, "What have you achieved by praying?" or said, "Praying or not praying is the same; all of this is disbelief."

[34] Whoever says, "We have prayed a lot, but none of our needs were fulfilled," is a disbeliever.

[35] The Sharia is not outside the truth; whoever goes outside it is at risk of disbelief.

[36] Those who dance, those who consider it permissible, and those who engage in ecstatic play are disbelievers.

[37] Taking pleasure from music and instruments is disbelief.

[38] Sufis who listen to music and engage in ecstatic play are corrupt and godless.

[40] Saying "O Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani, something for Allah" is not free from the fear of disbelief.

[41] Whoever says that the distance taken for the sake of a wali (saint) is true is ignorant and a disbeliever.

[43] Naming someone "Abd al-Nabi" (Servant of the Prophet) or similar is disbelief.

[44] Saying "Bismillah" over forbidden food is disbelief.

[45] Whoever says Bismillah and then eats something forbidden is a disbeliever.

[46] Whoever says Bismillah while drinking alcohol, committing adultery, or gambling is a disbeliever.

[47] Whoever gives charity from forbidden wealth and hopes for reward is a disbeliever.

[48] Whoever enjoins good (i.e., preaches) and another says, "Why are you making noise?" is a disbeliever.

[49] Whoever is told to repent from sin and says, "What have I done that if I repent I will become a disbeliever?" is a disbeliever.

[50] Saying [اِنَّ الصَّلٰوۃَ تَنۡہٰی] in ،،تَنۡہٰی،، as a joke is disbelief.

[51] Whoever says, "I want wealth; what use is knowledge?" will be a disbeliever.

[52] Whoever says, "In this era, one cannot live without treachery and lying, or one cannot get bread," is a disbeliever.

[53] One who considers child prostitution lawful is a disbeliever.

Summary: Every reciter of the Kalima should read, understand, and avoid these matters of disbelief, so that they may secure their hereafter.

Sincerity and Hypocrisy​


Definition of Sincerity:​


Sincerely believing in the words of Allah Almighty and His Messenger ﷺ and sincerely acting upon them is a sign of pure faith, and whoever does not do so may fall into the category of a hypocrite.

Definition of Hypocrisy:​


Not sincerely believing in the words of Allah and His Messenger ﷺ nor sincerely acting upon them (i.e., not having faith with heart and soul and not acting accordingly). There are some signs of a hypocrite mentioned in the Quran and Hadith, from which one should protect oneself:

[1] The hypocrite is lazy in performing prayers and other acts of worship.

[2] The hypocrite betrays trusts.

[3] The hypocrite lies when he speaks.

[4] The hypocrite breaks promises.

[5] The hypocrite argues unjustly and uses abusive language.
