Masnūn Supplications for Contentment, Independence, and Relief from Fear

Masnūn Supplications and Wazāʾif for Contentment and Independence from Creation

Source: Ahkam wa Masail, Vol. 01, in the light of Qur’an and Hadith, p. 499

❖ Question 1

Please mention a supplication or wazīfah through which Allah ﷻ grants sufficiency in every aspect, and instills contentment (qanāʿat) in the heart.

❖ Answer

The blessed words authentically reported from the Prophet ﷺ are the most beneficial daily practice. For this purpose, recite frequently the following duʿā:

اللّٰهُمَّ اكْفِنِيْ بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِيْ بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

Translation:

“O Allah! Suffice me with what You have made lawful against what You have made unlawful, and make me independent by Your bounty from everyone besides You.”

  • Reference: Jāmiʿ al-Tirmidhī, Abwāb al-Daʿawāt, ḥadīth 3563

This supplication brings contentment and independence from creation. Recite it sincerely, with conviction and attention, every morning and evening.

❖ Question 2

At times, I feel fear without reason. My legs weaken, negative thoughts dominate my mind, and I remain worried. Fear seems to overtake my heart. What can I do so that only the fear of Allah remains in my heart, and I am fearless of the rest of creation?

❖ Answer

For such a state, the following Prophetic duʿā is highly beneficial. It should be recited with full concentration:

يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوْبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِيْ عَلٰى دِيْنِكَ

Translation:

“O Turner of hearts! Keep my heart firm upon Your religion.”

  • Reference: Jāmiʿ al-Tirmidhī, vol. 2, Abwāb al-Daʿawāt

This duʿā grants tranquility of heart, steadfastness, and trust in Allah. Make it a routine after Fajr and ʿIshāʾ, or whenever fear and anxiety arise.
