Local Follower Behind a Traveling Imam: How to Complete Salah

❖ Method of Prayer for a Local Follower Behind a Traveling Imam ❖

Source: Fatawa Ulama-e-Hadith, Volume 09

If the Imam is a traveler and is leading the Ẓuhr prayer, he will perform two Rak'ahs (Qasr prayer) and then conclude the Salah with Salām. After the Imam finishes:

✦ The local follower will not say Salām with the Imam.
✦ Instead, he will stand up and complete his remaining two Rak'ahs in order to fulfill the full four Rak'ahs required for a resident during Ẓuhr.

✔ Conclusion

In this way, the follower's prayer will be complete, because four Rak'ahs are obligatory upon local residents, while the traveler performs two Rak'ahs as Qasr.

Jazāk Allāhu Khayran.
