Licking hands after eating, finding faults in the food, and prohibiting overeating

This excerpt is taken from Sheikh Hussain bin Mubarak Al-Mawsili's Arabic book Al-Awamer wal-Nawahi, whose Urdu translation has been done by Muhammad Sarwar Gohar Sahib under the title Ahkamat o Mamnoaat.

Instructions on licking fingers after eating​

① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنهما that the Prophet Muhammad صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
إذا أكل أحدكم طعاما فلا يمسح يده حتىٰ يلعقها أو يلعقها
"When any one of you eats, he should not clean his hand until he licks it."

Prohibition of finding faults in food​

① Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه narrates that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم never found fault with food. If he liked something, he would eat it, and if he disliked it, he would leave it.

② Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه also narrates that he never saw the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم finding fault with food; if he liked something, he would eat it, and if he disliked it, he would remain silent.

Prohibition of Excessive Eating​

① Nafi narrates that it was the habit of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما to invite a poor person and eat with him. One day I sent a man to him, and he kept eating with him. When he ate a lot, he said: Nafi! Do not send him to me again. I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم say:
المؤمن يأكل فى معى واحد ، والكافر يأكل فى سبعة أمعاء
“A believer eats in one intestine, while a disbeliever eats in seven intestines.”

This hadith uses a metaphor to explain that a believer is content with a little of the worldly things, while a disbeliever is greedy for more.
