It is Not Permissible to Interrupt Someone While Urinating

Hadith Reference:

Anas bin Malik (رضي الله عنه) narrated:

"A Bedouin came and began urinating in one corner of the mosque. The people started scolding him, but the Prophet (ﷺ) told them to stop. When he had finished urinating, the Prophet (ﷺ) ordered a bucket of water to be poured over it."
(Sahih Bukhari: 221; Sahih Muslim: 284, 285 – Muttafaq ‘Alaih)

① Urine is Impure and Must Be Cleaned

  • Urine is unanimously considered impure in Islam.
  • Any surface contaminated by urine must be purified with water.

② It is Not Permissible to Stop Someone While Urinating

Stopping someone midway during urination can cause harm, such as:
Health Risks – It may lead to kidney or bladder issues.
Splashing of Urine – The person may accidentally soil their clothes or surroundings, making purification difficult.

③ Proper Etiquette for Mosques

  • A mosque is a sacred place, and it must be kept clean.
  • Throwing filth in the mosque is strictly prohibited.
  • If someone ignorantly defiles the mosque, they should be treated with kindness and patience, as demonstrated by the Prophet (ﷺ).

④ Wisdom in Handling Situations

  • The Prophet (ﷺ) stopped the companions from rebuking the man, showing his wisdom and concern for the person’s well-being.
  • Sometimes, an action may appear correct outwardly, but it may cause more harm than good.
  • The Prophet (ﷺ) handled the situation patiently and effectively, ensuring no harm was done to the individual.

⑤ Privacy and Cleanliness in Relieving Oneself

  • A person should urinate in a secluded place to maintain privacy.
  • One should not be disturbed while relieving themselves.

Conclusion

Islam emphasizes cleanliness and wisdom in handling situations. Interrupting someone while urinating is discouraged due to the potential harm it may cause. Maintaining patience and using a compassionate approach in correcting others is the Prophetic way.
