This excerpt is taken from Sheikh Hussain bin Mubarak Al-Mawsili's Arabic book Al-Awamer wal-Nawahi, whose Urdu translation has been done by Muhammad Sarwar Gohar Sahib under the title Ahkamat o Mamnooat.
① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said:
إذا بال أحدكم فلا يأخذ ذكره بيمينه، ولا يستنجي بيمينه، ولا يتنفس فى الإناء
"When any of you urinates, he should not touch his private parts with his right hand, nor perform istinja with the right hand, nor breathe into the vessel while drinking."
Reference: Bukhari, Book of Ablution, 154. Muslim, Book of Purification, 267/63.
① Sayyiduna Ibn Maghfal رضي الله عنه heard his son making this supplication: "O Allah! I ask You for a white palace on the right side of Paradise when I enter Paradise." He said: Son! Ask Allah for Paradise and seek refuge from Hellfire, because I heard the Messenger of Allah
"There will be some people in this Ummah who will be excessive in purification and supplication."
Reference: Abu Dawood, Kitab al-Taharah, 96. Ibn Majah, Kitab al-Du'a, 3864.
① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub رضي الله عنه that the Prophet Muhammad صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
إذا أتيتم الغائط فلا تستقبلوا القبلة ولا تستدبروها ببول ولا غائط ولكن شرقوا أو غربوا
"When you go to relieve yourself, do not face the Qibla nor turn your back to it, but face either the east or the west."
Abu Ayyub states: When we came to the land of Sham, we saw that the toilets were built facing the Qibla, so we would turn away from them and seek forgiveness from Allah Almighty.
Reference: Bukhari, Book of Prayer, 394. Muslim, Book of Purification, 264/59.
Explanation: The instruction to face east or west while relieving oneself was addressed to the people of Madinah because their Qibla was towards the south. For those living in the Indian subcontinent, the Qibla is towards the west, so the command for us is to face either south or north. In short, one should neither face nor turn their back to the Qibla while relieving oneself.
① Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه reports that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
اتقوا اللعانين
"Avoid two cursed things."
The Companions رضي الله عنهم asked: O Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم! What are those two cursed things?
"One who relieves himself on people's pathways or in their shaded places."
Reference: Muslim, Book of Purification, 269/68. Musnad Ahmad, Musnad al-Mukthireen, 493/2, Hadith 8875.
② Sayyiduna Muadh bin Jabal رضي الله عنه reports that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
اتقوا الملاعن الثلاث: البراز فى الموارد، وقارعة الطريق، والظل
"Avoid three cursed things: avoid urinating in springs, public pathways, and shaded places."
Reference: Abu Dawood, Book of Purification, 26. Ibn Majah, 328. Its chain is weak.
③ Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Surjis رضي الله عنه narrates that the Prophet Muhammad صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم forbade urinating in a water bucket. He asked Qatadah رحمه الله why urinating in a bucket is disliked. He said: It was said that it is the dwelling place of jinn.
Reference: Abu Dawood, Book of Purification, 29.
④ Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal رضي الله عنه narrates that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
لا يبولن أحدكم فى مستحمه، فإن عامة الوسواس منه
"None of you should urinate in his bathhouse because it causes common doubts."
Reference: Abu Dawood, Book of Purification, 27. Tirmidhi, Book of Purification, 21.
⑤ Sayyiduna Jabir رضي الله عنه narrates that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم forbade urinating in still and stagnant water.
