❖ Question

Is it permissible for women to wear jewelry?

❖ Answer

الحمد لله، والصلاة والسلام علىٰ رسول الله، أما بعد!

Yes, a woman may adorn herself within the boundaries of Shari‘ah. Since jewelry is a form of adornment, she is permitted to wear it, whether it is made of gold, silver, diamonds, or other metals.

◈ Qur’anic Proof

Allah ﷻ says:
﴿أَوَمَنْ يُنَشَّأُ فِي الْحِلْيَةِ﴾ (الزخرف: 18)
"What! One who is brought up amid adornments (jewelry)…"

◈ Scholarly Opinion

  • ʿAllamah al-Kiya al-Harrasi (504 AH) رحمه الله said:
"This verse is evidence for the permissibility of jewelry for women. There is consensus on this ruling, and the narrations (ahadith) regarding it are beyond count."
    (Ahkam al-Qur’an 4/369)

◈ Conclusion

  • Women are permitted to wear jewelry.
  • This ruling is supported by the Qur’an, authentic narrations, and the ijma‘ (consensus) of the Ummah.
