Islamic Ruling on Video Recording and Its Various Aspects

Authored by: Dr. Muhammad Zia ur-Rahman Azmi رحمه الله

✔ Ruling:

The permissibility of video recording depends on the intended content.

Recording weddings or ceremonial gatherings, especially during marriage functions, is a grave mistake and a major sin,
→ because such videos are often viewed by others and typically include:
Unveiled and adorned women,
Women engaging in casual conversation and laughter,
→ which leads to temptation (fitnah) and is clearly haram.

However, creating educational or scientific videos,
→ such as instructional material or lectures where someone speaks to an audience for guidance and teaching,
→ is not objectionable, provided the content is appropriate and beneficial.

✦ In summary: The ruling depends on the nature of the content being recorded.
