Islamic Ruling on Saying “Jumuʿah Mubarak” and Posting Statuses

❀ Question:

What is the ruling on saying “Jumuʿah Mubarak” and posting statuses related to it on social media?

❀ Answer by: Shaykh Abdul Wakeel Nasir حفظه الله

According to Islamic teachings, Friday (Jumuʿah) is indeed a blessed day and the best day of the week, and its virtues are well established through multiple authentic Hadiths.

However, the practice of saying “Jumuʿah Mubarak”, conveying greetings, or posting statuses on social media related to it was not found among the Salaf al-Sālihīn (righteous predecessors), nor is there any clear Sharʿi evidence to support this act.

Therefore, it is best to refrain from such practices in order to avoid promoting unnecessary customs and innovations.

✔ Summary:

① The virtue of Friday is well-established in Islam.
② There is no Sharʿi basis for saying “Jumuʿah Mubarak” or posting statuses for it.
Avoiding this practice is preferable to prevent the spread of non-legislated customs.
