❖ Islamic Ruling on Creating Cartoons ❖
Answered by: Fadīlat al-ʿĀlim Ḥāfiẓ Khidr Ḥayāt (ḥafiẓahullāh)
What is the Sharʿī ruling on creating cartoons?
✔ General Principle:
Creating cartoons generally falls under the category of depicting animate beings, which resembles the making of images or statues — an act that is not permissible in Islamic teachings.
Certain scholars have allowed an exception based on the ḥadīth of Sayyidah ʿĀ’ishah (رضي الله عنها), in which it is mentioned that she possessed dolls to play with.
▶ Based on this, it is argued that if cartoons are created for children's education and permissible entertainment, and they do not promote immorality or false beliefs, then there is no harm in them.
