✦ Ruling on Digging One’s Own Grave Before Death
✍ Written by: Imran Ayyub Lahori
Digging one’s own grave before death is not permissible, as:
✘ The Prophet (ﷺ) never did this.
✘ The Companions (رضي الله عنهم) also never practiced this.
✘ Furthermore, a person has no knowledge of where he will die, making such preparation unfounded and presumptive.
Ahkam al-Janaiz by Shaykh al-Albani: p. 204
Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله) also held the same view.
Also cited in the same source.
✔ Key Point:
Pre-digging one's grave is neither supported by Prophetic practice nor the actions of the Sahabah, and should therefore be avoided.
