An advertisement states:
"A daughter is Allah’s mercy and a son is Allah’s blessing. People become worried due to having more daughters and desire male offspring. Use our medicine ‘Awlad-e-Nareena Course’; In shā’ Allah a son will be born."
What is the ruling on this according to Shari‘ah?
Alhamdulillah, wassalatu wassalamu ‘ala Rasulillah, amma ba’d:
If a medicine is prepared according to Shar‘i principles and contains no haram ingredients, then using it is permissible, provided that:
◈ The medicine does not include any haram substances.
◈ No absolute claims are made regarding its effect, rather it is only regarded as a means.
◈ Guaranteeing or making a definite promise that such medicine will result in a son is not permissible in Shari‘ah, because the granting of sons or daughters is solely under the will of Allah ﷻ.
Allah ﷻ says:
"يَهَبُ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ إِنَاثًا وَيَهَبُ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ الذُّكُورَ"
(Ash-Shura: 49)
Translation:
"He grants daughters to whom He wills, and He grants sons to whom He wills."

❖ Question:
An advertisement states:
"A daughter is Allah’s mercy and a son is Allah’s blessing. People become worried due to having more daughters and desire male offspring. Use our medicine ‘Awlad-e-Nareena Course’; In shā’ Allah a son will be born."
What is the ruling on this according to Shari‘ah?
❖ Answer:
Alhamdulillah, wassalatu wassalamu ‘ala Rasulillah, amma ba’d:
If a medicine is prepared according to Shar‘i principles and contains no haram ingredients, then using it is permissible, provided that:
◈ The medicine does not include any haram substances.
◈ No absolute claims are made regarding its effect, rather it is only regarded as a means.
Important Considerations:
◈ Guaranteeing or making a definite promise that such medicine will result in a son is not permissible in Shari‘ah, because the granting of sons or daughters is solely under the will of Allah ﷻ.
Allah ﷻ says:
"يَهَبُ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ إِنَاثًا وَيَهَبُ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ الذُّكُورَ"
(Ash-Shura: 49)
Translation:
"He grants daughters to whom He wills, and He grants sons to whom He wills."
Conclusion:
- If the medicine is made from halal ingredients and free from Shar‘i prohibitions, then its usage is permissible.
- However, one must always remember:
❀ The determination of a child’s gender is entirely in Allah’s hands.
❀ Medicine should never be considered a decisive or guaranteed cause.
