Islamic Method for Lowering the Deceased into the Grave

✦ Shar‘i Method of Lowering the Deceased into the Grave
Written by: Imran Ayyub Lahori

❖ Only Men Are to Lower the Deceased into the Grave — Whether Male or Female

According to Islamic teachings, only men should lower the deceased into the grave, regardless of whether the deceased is male or female. This is based on Prophetic practice and the consistent action of the Ummah.

📘 Ahkam al-Janaiz by Shaykh al-Albani: p. 186

✔ Reasons for This Ruling:

This has been the consistent practice of Muslims since the time of the Prophet (ﷺ).
Men are stronger and more capable of performing this task with calmness and stability.
➌ If women were to participate, there is a risk that parts of their bodies may become exposed in front of non-mahram men, which is not permissible.

✔ Key Point:
The responsibility of placing the deceased into the grave lies solely with men, irrespective of the gender of the deceased. This ruling ensures modesty, strength, and alignment with the Sunnah.
