Was there any form of incantation in the age of ignorance?
Answer:
It is narrated from ʿAwf bin Malik رضی اللہ عنہ, who said: "We used to recite incantations during the period of ignorance. Then we said, 'O Messenger of Allah, what is your opinion regarding this?' He صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم replied:
『اعرضوا على رقاكم، لا بأس بالرقية ما لم يكن فيها شرك』
'Present your incantations before me. There is no harm in incantation as long as there is no shirk in it.'"
[Sahih Muslim, Hadith no. 2200; Sunan Abi Dawood, Hadith no. 3886]
