Is Wudhu Required for Sajdah al-Sahw After Salām in Salah?

✦ Ruling on Performing Sajdah al-Sahw After Breaking Wudhu Post-Salām ✦

❖ Question:

If a person breaks their wudhu (ablution) immediately after saying salām at the end of Ṣalāh, and then realizes that there was an omission in the prayer, can they perform Sajdah al-Sahw without making a new wudhu, or is it mandatory to renew the wudhu?

❖ Answer by:

Shaykh ʿAbd al-Wakeel Nāṣir حفظه الله

✔ Since the intention to perform Sajdah al-Sahw arose after the prayer had already ended, there is no longer any obligation to perform it.
✔ Even if wudhu is broken during Sajdah al-Sahw, the prayer is, by Allah’s will, still considered valid and complete.

❖ Key Rulings:

Sajdah al-Sahw is performed outside the core ṣalāh — it occurs after the completion of the prayer.
◈ If the ṣalāh was completed without Sajdah al-Sahw, the prayer is still valid and accepted, in shā’ Allāh.
◈ Therefore, if one’s wudhu breaks after salām, there is no need to repeat wudhu just for the purpose of Sajdah al-Sahw.

📝 Conclusion:
Sajdah al-Sahw is not mandatory
in such a case, and the prayer remains valid. Performing a new wudhu is not required if one had already completed the prayer.

والله أعلم بالصواب
