Is Working with Amazon Permissible in Islam? Ruling Explained

❀ Shar‘i Ruling on Working with Amazon ❀
Fatwa by: Shaykh Khidr Hayat ḥafiẓahullāh

❖ Question:

What is the Islamic ruling on working with or through Amazon?

Answer:

Amazon functions as a marketplace platform where a wide range of goods and services are bought and sold. The Shar‘i ruling depends on the nature of the work being performed.

Permissible Work (Ḥalāl)

✔ If a person is engaged in:

  • Selling permissible (ḥalāl) items
  • Offering legitimate services
  • Involvement in ethical business activities

then working through or with Amazon is permissible, and no Shar‘i objection applies.

➋ Impermissible Work (Ḥarām)

✘ If the nature of the work includes:

  • Selling ḥarām or unethical products (e.g., alcohol, prohibited food items, immoral content)
  • Promoting or facilitating un-Islamic services

then such employment or business is not permissible in Islam.

Conclusion:

Working with Amazon is permissible as long as your job or business activity involves ḥalāl products and services.
✘ Any involvement with prohibited goods or services must be strictly avoided.
