Is Ta'awwudh a Part of the Noble Qur’an or Not?

Is Ta'awwudh a Part of the Noble Qur’an?
Source: Fatawa Ameenpuri by Shaykh Ghulam Mustafa Zaheer Ameenpuri

❖ Question:

Is Ta'awwudh considered a part of the Noble Qur’an?

❖ Answer:

The command to recite Ta'awwudh before the recitation of the Qur’an is indeed found in the Qur’an itself, however, Ta'awwudh is not a part of the Qur’an.

Allah ﷻ states:
﴿فَإِذَا قَرَأْتَ الْقُرْآنَ فَاسْتَعِذْ بِاللهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ﴾
(Surah An-Nahl: 98)
"So when you recite the Qur’an, seek refuge with Allah from Shayṭān, the accursed."

❖ Scholarly Consensus:

Imam Ibn Hayyan al-Andalusi رحمه الله (d. 745 AH) stated:

"ليس من القرآن بإجماع"
"It is unanimously agreed upon that Ta'awwudh is not part of the Qur’an."
(Al-Baḥr al-Muḥīṭ, 1/32)

✔ Conclusion:
Reciting Ta'awwudh before the Qur’an is an act of obedience to a Divine command, but it is not included in the actual verses or contents of the Noble Qur’an.
