Question:
At what time did the Prophet ﷺ emphasize making earnest duʿāʾ at the place of Multazam — during Hajj, ʿUmrah, or both?
Answer:
The Multazam is the area between the Black Stone (Ḥajar al-Aswad) and the door of the Kaʿbah.
➤ It is established from authentic reports that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the Companions رضي الله عنهم used to cling to this place, placing their chest, arms, hands, and face upon it, making heartfelt duʿāʾ.
This is supported by narrations found in:
- Sunan Abī Dāwūd, Kitāb al-Manāsik: Bāb al-Multazam
- Sunan Ibn Mājah: Bāb al-Multazam
(Narration from ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar رضي الله عنهما)
Timing of Duʿāʾ at the Multazam:
➤ There is no fixed time for clinging to the Multazam or making duʿāʾ there.
➤ It may be done at any time during the Hajj season, whether during Hajj or ʿUmrah.
➤ The Companions used to do so even upon entering Makkah, not limited to a specific ritual moment.
Summary:
✔ Embracing and making duʿāʾ at the Multazam is authentic and permissible.
✔ It is not restricted to either Hajj or ʿUmrah alone.
✔ No specific time is mandated; it may be done anytime during one's stay in Makkah.
