Is it shirk to say “Yā Rasūl Allāh”, while in the Qur’an Allah says:
﴿يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ﴾ (O Prophet!)?
Al-ḥamdulillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ʿammā baʿd!
The fundamental issue is that the Qur’an has clearly declared calling upon anyone other than Allah to be shirk. Numerous verses highlight this reality.
➊ Sūrat Fāṭir (35:14):
“If you call upon them, they do not hear your call; and even if they heard, they could not respond to you. On the Day of Resurrection, they will deny your association. None can inform you like the All-Aware.”
➋ Sūrat al-Naḥl (16:20–21):
“Those whom they invoke besides Allah create nothing, while they themselves are created. They are dead, not alive, and they do not perceive when they will be resurrected.”
Conclusion:
Saying “Yā Rasūl Allāh” in the sense of invocation, seeking help, or fulfilling needs is shirk, because duʿāʾ is an act of worship reserved exclusively for Allah. The Qur’anic address to the Prophet ﷺ does not justify calling upon him in the manner reserved for Allah alone.

❀ Clarification
- These verses establish that calling upon anyone besides Allah, seeking help, or making them a means of fulfilling needs is shirk.
- The verse ﴿يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ﴾ is Allah’s own direct address to His Messenger ﷺ.
- This cannot be used as a proof for ordinary Muslims to call upon the Prophet ﷺ as they call upon Allah, or to invoke him for unseen help.
