Is Saying “Jumuʿah Mubārak” Sunnah? Islamic Ruling Explained

📘 The Shar‘i Ruling on Saying “Jumuʿah Mubārak”

❓ Question:

Is it permissible in Sharīʿah to greet one another with “Jumuʿah Mubārak” on Fridays?

📝 Answer by: Fadhīlat al-Shaykh Saʿīd Mujtabā Saʿīdī ḥafiẓahullāh

❖ No Sharʿī Basis for Saying "Jumuʿah Mubārak"

◈ There is no evidence in Sharīʿah to support the practice of saying “Jumuʿah Mubārak”.

◈ This practice is not established from:

  • The Prophet ﷺ,
  • The Companions رضي الله عنهم,
  • Or the Salaf al-Ṣāliḥīn (righteous predecessors).

❌ Therefore:

✔ It cannot be considered a Sunnah or recommended act (mustaḥabb) in Islam.

✔ Saying it with the belief that it is a virtuous or religious act is not correct, as any act of worship or religious greeting must be rooted in authentic Sharīʿah evidence.
