Is It Permissible to Serve ʿAqīqah Meat at a Wedding? Sharʿi Insight

✦ Sharʿi Ruling on Using ʿAqīqah Meat for a Wedding Meal ✦

❖ Question:

Is it permissible to use ʿAqīqah meat for a wedding meal?
In other words, can one offer a sacrifice for ʿAqīqah and then use that same meat to serve guests at a wedding, thus combining both occasions?

❖ Answer by:

Shaykh ʿAbd al-Wakeel Nāṣir حفظه الله

✔ Once the sacrifice for ʿAqīqah is completed, the ʿAqīqah is considered valid and fulfilled.
✔ If the meat is then preserved and used a few days later for a wedding or any other event, there is no harm in doing so.

❖ Important Points:

◈ The essential requirement for ʿAqīqah is the sacrifice itself, which is fulfilled by slaughtering the animal.
◈ After the sacrifice, it is permissible to use the meat in any social gathering, including a wedding.
◈ Therefore, serving ʿAqīqah meat at a wedding does not violate any Sharʿi principle, and is allowed, In shā’ Allāh.
