Is It Permissible to Say “Allāh Ḥāfiẓ”? A Shar‘i Clarification

📌 The Shar‘i Ruling on Saying “Allāh Ḥāfiẓ”
Source: Fatāwā ʿUlamāʾ-e-Ahl-e-Ḥadīth, Vol. 9

❖ Question:

Is it permissible to say “Allāh Ḥāfiẓ” (May Allah protect you)?

❖ Answer:

Yes, saying “Allāh Ḥāfiẓ” is permissible because it is a supplicatory phrase (duʿāʾiyyah kalimah).

When a Muslim says this to another, it simply means:

  • “May Allah protect you.”
  • Or: “I entrust you to Allah’s protection.”

This expression is similar to other customary phrases of prayer used in languages like Urdu or Punjabi, which carry well-intended supplications.

❖ Summary:

✅ Saying “Allāh Ḥāfiẓ” is completely permissible as it constitutes a form of duʿāʾ (supplication) from one Muslim for another.
