Is it permissible to use unlawful means in English language courses or other subjects such as mathematics?
It is not permissible to use unlawful means in any subject. The purpose of an examination is to assess a student's capability in the respective subject. Moreover, such actions reflect laziness, deceit, and giving preference to a dishonest and negligent person over one who is hardworking.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
"من غشنا فليس منا"
[Narrated by Muslim, Book of Faith, Hadith 164]
"Whoever cheats us is not one of us."
The term "غش" (cheating) applies generally to all matters.
[Shaykh Ibn Jibreen رحمه الله]
