Taken from: Fatāwā al-Dīn al-Khāliṣ, Vol. 1, Page 382

❖ Question:

Is it permissible to wash a limb more than three times in wudu (ablution) out of caution?

❖ Answer:

Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh. ʾAmma baʿd:

It is not permissible to wash the limbs more than three times during wudu or ghusl, as a clear prohibition has been established through an authentic Hadith of the Noble Prophet ﷺ in this matter.

✿ The Hadith of the Prophet ﷺ:

After performing wudu three times, the Prophet ﷺ stated:

"جو اس سے زیادہ کرے گا، وہ برا کرے گا، حد سے تجاوز کرے گا یا ظلم کا ارتکاب کرے گا۔"
(Sunan Abī Dāwūd, Ibn Mājah, and others)

✔ Explanation:

This Hadith clarifies that washing more than three times is prohibited.

If someone wishes to wash any limb more than three times out of caution, the Prophet ﷺ did not permit such an act.

Even in the Sunnah, it is proven that the Prophet ﷺ sometimes washed once or twice, therefore, washing more than three times is not precautionary, rather, it is exceeding the prescribed limit.

❖ Warning Against Satanic Whispers:

Such excess is not precaution but rather may be a sign of satanic whisperings (waswāsah).

Regarding wudu, a specific devil is mentioned whose name is "Walhān", who instills doubts in people concerning the usage of water and the performance of wudu.

Hence, it is essential to guard against satanic whisperings related to wudu and water usage.
