❖ Is It Permissible to Give More Than the Fixed Amount of Sadaqat al-Fitr?

Is it permissible to give more than the prescribed amount of Sadaqat al-Fitr with the intention of charity?
❖ Answer:
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā baʿd:
Yes, it is completely permissible for a person to give more than the fixed amount of Fitrah, with the intention of charity for the excess. This is practiced by many people in the present time. For instance:
✔ Examples:
◈ If a person has to give Sadaqat al-Fitr on behalf of ten individuals, they may purchase an entire sack of rice and give it as Sadaqat al-Fitr on behalf of themselves and their entire family.
◈ If such a person is confident that the sack meets or exceeds the obligatory amount, then this act is valid and acceptable.
◈ The obligation of weighing the charity exists to ensure that the required amount is fulfilled.
◈ Therefore, if it is certain that the sack covers the obligatory portion, then there is no objection to giving the entire sack to the poor.
هٰذَا مَا عِندِي وَاللّٰهُ أَعْلَمُ بِالصَّوَابِ
This is what I hold to be correct, and Allah knows best what is right.
