Is Everyone Who Disagrees Really ISIS or a Jewish Agent?

Is Everyone Who Disagrees a Jewish Agent or ISIS?

By: Asif Mehmood
Reflections from the Renowned Intellectual Asif Mehmood

The well-known intellectual Asif Mehmood, in his column, has shed light on the social and intellectual contradictions of our time. Drawing upon the views of Khurshid Nadeem and Asrar Alam, he raises important questions about current societal and ideological attitudes. The article highlights how, based on varying standards, a single person can at times be labelled a “Jewish agent” and at other times as “ISIS.”

Asrar Alam’s List of Jewish Conspiracies

In his book ‘The Moral and Political Condition of the Islamic World’, Asrar Alam attributes various societal issues among Muslims to Jewish conspiracies. The points he presents include:

① Muslim youth going bare-headed (p. 321)
② Urban migration (p. 321)
③ Girls being named Nida, Hina, Seema (p. 322)
④ Writings of Ismat Chughtai, Saadat Hasan Manto, and Meeraji (p. 324)
⑤ Installation of Ghalib's statue in Jamia Millia Islamia (p. 325)
⑥ Videography at weddings (p. 326)
⑦ Muslim women demanding permission to drive (p. 326)
⑧ No official holiday on Friday (p. 328)
⑨ Establishment of the United Nations (p. 345)
⑩ International human rights movements (p. 298)
⑪ Extracurricular activities in educational institutions (p. 319)
⑫ Promotion of drama culture (p. 364)
⑬ Establishment of beauty parlours (p. 363)

Following this list, Asif Mehmood writes that if all these things are to be considered Jewish conspiracies, then perhaps no Muslim can be spared from being labelled a Jewish agent.

Khurshid Nadeem’s Perspective: “Am I ISIS?”

Mr. Khurshid Nadeem, in his column, elaborates on the ideological aspects of ISIS and links certain mindsets to it. According to him, people who hold the following opinions are affiliated with ISIS:

✔ Objection to Interest-Based Economy

According to Khurshid Nadeem, those who say:

– The country is running on an interest-based system which is a war against Allah and His Messenger ﷺ.
– The ruling elite is unwilling to abolish it, which is hypocrisy.

Such individuals are linked to ISIS. Asif Mehmood questions: If criticizing the interest-based economy is tantamount to being ISIS, then would not he himself fall into the same category?

✔ Objection to the Corrupt Political System

According to Khurshid Nadeem, those who believe:

– A corrupt political mafia is imposed upon Pakistan.
– Deliverance is not possible through the existing democratic system.

They too, are considered associated with ISIS. Asif Mehmood asks: Is criticism of a corrupt system the narrative of ISIS?

✔ Hatred Towards Rulers

Khurshid Nadeem states that individuals who:

– Criticize the behavior of the ruling class and do not regard them as well-wishers of the people.
– Incite hatred against the rulers.

Such individuals are also considered to be from ISIS. Asif Mehmood expresses astonishment: Is criticism of a ruler’s protocol or public grievances tantamount to inciting hatred?

✔ Criticism of the Indian Prime Minister

According to Khurshid Nadeem, those who consider Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the murderer of Muslims and label any relationship with him as treachery, are also included in the domain of ISIS.

Asif Mehmood asks: Is calling Modi a murderer against intellectual or democratic norms? Suppressing disagreement with accusations of being ISIS is no substitute for dialogue.

❖ Intellectual Division and Social Consequences

In his article, Asif Mehmood emphasizes that labeling individuals as “Jewish agents” or “ISIS” based on differing standards is an immoderate attitude. Such labeling fosters fear and discord within society. According to him, disagreement is natural, and the solution lies in dialogue, not accusations.
