❖ Ruling on One Who Considers a Fresh Wudu Obligatory for Every Prayer

❀ Question:
What is the ruling on a person who considers it obligatory to perform a fresh wudu for every prayer?
❀ Answer:
Wudu is a condition for salah, but one wudu suffices for several obligatory and voluntary prayers. To declare a fresh wudu obligatory for every prayer is in opposition to the mutawatir Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the consensus of the Ummah.
❀ Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله (d. 728H) said:
أما القول بوجوبه، فمخالف للسنة المتواترة عن الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم ولإجماع الصحابة
“As for saying that it is obligatory, this contradicts the mutawatir Sunnah from the Messenger ﷺ and the consensus of the Companions.”
