❖ Question:
What is the ruling on fasting without suḥūr (pre-dawn meal)?
Source: Fatāwā Amunpuri by Shaykh Ghulam Mustafa Zaheer Amunpuri
✿ Answer:
Whether the fast is voluntary (nafl) or obligatory (farḍ), having suḥūr is recommended (mustaḥabb) and Sunnah, and it brings blessings. However, fasting without suḥūr is still valid, provided the intention to fast has been made.
❀ Ḥadīth Evidence:
Sayyidunā Anas bin Mālik رضي الله عنه reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
تَسَحَّرُوا فَإِنَّ فِي السَّحُورِ بَرَكَةً
"Partake in suḥūr, for indeed there is blessing in suḥūr."
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 1923; Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: 1095)

① Suḥūr is Sunnah and brings blessings.
② Fasting without suḥūr is still valid if the intention to fast is made.
③ Observing suḥūr distinguishes the Muslim fast and adds barakah.
