Is “اللهم حاسبني حساباً يسيراً” Sunnah After Sūrah al-Ghāshiyah in Salah?

❀ Ruling on Saying “اللهم حاسبني حساباً يسيراً” After Sūrah al-Ghāshiyah ❀
Based on: Fatāwā ʿIlmiyyah, Vol. 1, Kitāb aṣ-Ṣalāh, Page 402

❖ Question:

In the last verse of Sūrah al-Ghāshiyah“ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم” – is it prescribed to say “اللهم حاسبني حساباً يسيراً” immediately afterward during prayer?

This is mentioned by Mubashshir Aḥmad Rabbānī in Āp ke Masāʾil aur un kā Ḥall, Vol. 1, Page 130, stating that the Prophet ﷺ used to say this supplication in prayer.
Imām al-Ḥākim authenticated the ḥadīth on the condition of Muslim, and adh-Dhahabī agreed with him.

✿ Answer:

Alḥamdulillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā baʿd!

✦ Authenticity of the Ḥadīth “اللهم حاسبني حساباً يسيراً”

This duʿāʾ – “O Allah, bring me to an easy reckoning” – is indeed narrated in authentic ḥadīths, found in the following reliable sources:

📚 Narration Sources:

Musnad Aḥmad

  • Vol. 6, Ḥadīth 24719, Page 48
  • Vol. 6, Ḥadīth 26031, Page 185

Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Khuzaymah

  • Vol. 2, Pages 30–31, Ḥadīth 849

Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān (al-Iḥsān)

  • Vol. 9, Pages 231–232, Ḥadīth 3728

Mustadrak al-Ḥākim

  • Vol. 1, Page 255, Ḥadīth 936

Imām al-Ḥākim graded it ṣaḥīḥ ʿalā sharṭ Muslim (authentic upon the conditions of Muslim), and adh-Dhahabī concurred.

✔ The chain of this narration is “ḥasan li dhātih” (reliable in itself).

✦ Clarification Regarding Sūrah al-Ghāshiyah

Although the duʿāʾ “اللهم حاسبني حساباً يسيراً” is authentically reported, there is no authentic ḥadīth that connects it specifically to the recitation of Sūrah al-Ghāshiyah or to the verse “ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم” in any part of ṣalāh.

➡ In other words, saying this duʿāʾ immediately after reciting Sūrah al-Ghāshiyah in prayer is not established from the Sunnah.

✅ Conclusion:

✔ The duʿāʾ itself is authentic, and the Prophet ﷺ used to recite it.

✘ However, associating it specifically with the end of Sūrah al-Ghāshiyah during prayer has no proven basis in ḥadīth.

Therefore, this practice should not be regarded as a Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ.
