Question:

Is Āmīn one of the names of Allah?

Answer:

Āmīn is not among the Asmāʾ al-Ḥusnā (Beautiful Names of Allah). The names of Allah are tawqīfī—they can only be established through evidence from the Qur’an and Sunnah. There is no proof in either Qur’an or Sunnah that Āmīn is counted among Allah’s names.

ʿAllāmah Ibn Qarqūl رحمه الله (d. 569H) said:
هذا لا يصح؛ ليس فى أسماء الله تعالى اسم مبني ولا غير معرب، مع أن أسماءه لا تثبت إلا بقرآن أو سنة متواترة، وقد عدم الطريقان فى آمين.

"This is not correct; none of Allah’s names are indeclinable or non-Arabic. Moreover, His names are only established through the Qur’an or mutawātir Sunnah, and both of these sources are devoid of mentioning Āmīn as one of His names."
(Maṭāliʿ al-Anwār: 1/291)
